Victor Shugo Unveils New Experimental Lab

The Black Cloud Traders Experimental Division has announced the opening of a new experimental lab led by the renowned researcher, Victor Shugo. Victor Shugo, known for his brilliant yet dangerous research on charging phlogistonic aether with lightning, will be heading the research facility.

In coordination with the Black Cloud Traders, the Empyrean Lords will be highlighting Victor Shugo’s research as an ongoing feature, using your hypotheses for his mad experiments! Victor Shugo’s current experimental project, though shrouded in secrecy, will be revealed next week to the populace of Atreia. You don’t want to miss the unveiling!

Cataclysm beta: New raid markers

I decided to hop in and do some more raiding on the beta. When setting up some marks for pulls, I discovered that they're not flares anymore! I know the current raid markers appear like clouds of smoke. They were originally flares created by engineers. Some people deemed them Lucky Charms. Well, I daresay these are Lucky-er Charms! The icons will bounce up and down and they glow!

This will make positioning a little more obvious since they're so bright and hard to miss. Currently, there are only five markers available. No idea if additional symbols will be added in the future. Think five will be enough? What do you think about the new raid markers?

Gems that change color may no longer match sockets once the patch is live.

Considering stats are changing so drastically when 4.0.1 goes live today, it should come as no surprise that gems will undergo some changes as well. The major changes to gems involve color switches and stat conversions.

Hit is now blue, Mastery and Dodge are now yellow, and Intellect is now red. If any of your gems change color after the patch goes live, they may no longer match the socket.

As for the stat conversions, here they are: Attack Power to Agility, Spell Power to Intellect, MP5 to Spirit, and Defense to Dodge or Parry.

Gem Changes in 4.0.1

As previously announced, we're changing many of the stats in the game. Some stats are being removed entirely, while others are being redefined. These stat changes will affect gems as well, as we've made a series of basic changes to them, including color changes and stat conversions.

Gems are being changed as follows:

Color Changes

• Hit is now blue. This makes blue gems interesting for all specs and classes.
• Mastery and Dodge are now yellow. This change ensures good yellow gem choices continue to exist for tanking. The addition of Mastery to yellow increases the color's value to all specs.
• Intellect is now red. Red needs to be a great choice for casters, and a universally good color for all specs.

If after the patch you have gems that have changed color, they may no longer match the socket they're in, and the socket bonuses will no longer be applied.

Some stats are being converted into others as detailed below:

Stat Conversion

• Attack Power is converted to Agility.
• Spell Power is converted to Intellect.
• Mana/5 is converted to Spirit.
• Defense is converted to Dodge, and sometimes Parry.

Armor Penetration is generally converted to Critical Strike

Cataclysm Beta: Mining and herbalism give experience

We've heard of people trying to play as pacifists in World of Warcraft, but there wasn't a lot of support for it in the game. A lot of the experience was earned from holiday events, battleground dailies, profession dailies, items with repeatable quests, and collection quests scattered across the game. If they played healers, this was much easier, as they could heal dungeons and battlegrounds without participating in the actual killing themselves.

Blizzard added another way to earn some experience with the latest patch for Cataclysm. You now earn experience when both gathering from mining and herbalism nodes. This is being reported about 4,000 experience for herb nodes in Wintergrasp at level 80. However, these do suffer from the same experience reduction that lower level quests are hit with. As an example, a level 83 player mining a copper node earns 5 experience but earns a couple of thousand from a titanium node.
